Self care
The concept of self care has become quite trendy lately, however, I also think its highly misunderstood.
Yes, taking a bubble bath can definitely be an act of self care, but it’s not the act itself that matters. Its how it serves you and meets your needs.
We all have unique needs. I often hear clients resist self care due to perceiving it as “selfish” or “indulgent.” Self care does not mean “my needs are more important than anyone else’s” but rather it reminds us “I HAVE NEEDS AND THEY MATTER.” Self care can be asserting yourself, saying no, setting boundaries, taking time to yourself, making time for others, or even simply taking some deep breaths. It looks different for everybody.
Self care makes us better versions of ourselves and reinforces treating ourselves with respect. When we care for ourselves we are more able to care for others. We are also less inclined to engage in maladaptive coping strategies such as eating disorder behaviors.
Take time to discover ways you can care for yourself and how you can prioritize these acts DAILY.
